The Machinery Behind the Wood
That we work with wood is no surprise, but did you know we run five planers daily? And a sixth is on the way. The new line will be both more efficient and ergonomic, equipped with an integrated scanner and optimization capabilities to improve flow and precision.
From Log to Precision
Before the moulders take over, everything starts with raw material. At both our sites, lamella and band saws optimize each piece of wood before it enters the moulder, laying the foundation for the consistent, reliable end product you receive.
A Day in the Life of the Moulders
Five planers are running daily – and soon, six. The next addition is Modesty Blaise, a WACO with an integrated scanner and optimization system, bringing improved flow and ergonomics to production.
The Muscle at Betarp
In Betarp, we have Lillasyster, our nimble Holytek, and Dracula, a more powerful version with an extra spindle for complex profiles. This is also where Modesty Blaise will be installed in 2025 and 2026.
Rebuilding After the Fire in Burseryd
After the 2022 fire, we’ve rebuilt our machinery from the ground up. Here you’ll find Hulken (a Unimat from Poland) awaiting a motor upgrade, Batman (a Holytek with twin spindles), and Johnny Puma (a Weinig from Spain), soon to be equipped with magazine feeding for solo operation.
Fire-classified wood tailored for construction projects
Demand for wood-based construction products with enhanced fire performance is steadily increasing. Since 2013, we have collaborated with Woodsafe Timber Protection AB, specialists in fire-retardant impregnation. The combination of Bäckegårds’ expertise and understanding of wood, the Woodsafe Group’s market-leading expertise in passive fire protection, and our shared history of successful projects spanning almost 15 years has resulted in an efficient, high-quality production chain for fire-rated wood products.
Both Woodsafe and Bäckegårds engage RISE for continuous production control. RISE also issues our CE certificates and type approval certificates and carries out the majority of our certification testing.
Since 2026, in collaboration with Woodsafe Research and Development, we have also been able to offer a range of project-specific fire tests. This provides greater flexibility and improved opportunities for project-specific material testing, contributing to well-informed and well-founded decision-making.
When selling fire-rated products, Bäckegårds is responsible for establishing Declarations of Performance (DoP) in accordance with the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). Documentation of other fire-related technical performance is provided by Woodsafe Timber Protection AB.
Eco-Friendly Surface Treatment
Our two flexible paint lines handle both opaque and translucent coatings for indoor and outdoor use. All systems are water-based, a deliberate choice to reduce emissions of volatile compounds and protect our local environment.
To speed up service, we’ve invested in our own tinting equipment from leading paint manufacturers. This allows us to quickly produce custom color samples, cut down on transport, and minimize leftover paint that would otherwise require disposal.
