Thermowood for Powerhouse Drøbak Montessori Secondary School
Powerhouse Drøbak Montessori Secondary School has 60 pupils in years 8–10 and is designed for 80. Beautifully situated next to the forest in Drøbak, it is the first school building to meet Powerhouse’s strict environmental requirements. The school features a solar slab – an inclined plane cutting through the building that creates natural buoyancy ventilation: clean air is drawn in and stale air expelled. The solar cells on the façade face south at a 33-degree pitch for maximum output, and the school aims to produce 30,500 kWh of energy from its panels.
