Factory-patinated Thermowood pine for Kaldnes Brygge
A vibrant residential area close to the waterfront, developed from shipyard industry into an urban housing concept. The project comprises four buildings with a total of 103 apartments and builds an architectural bridge between Tønsberg’s maritime heritage and modern city life. The transformation from industrial shipyard to residential neighborhood reflects a broader ambition to reactivate former industrial waterfront sites for contemporary urban living, while preserving a sense of place and historical continuity.
The four buildings are carefully composed to create a coherent yet varied streetscape, with a material and architectural language that draws on the area’s maritime and industrial past. Generous outdoor spaces, proximity to the water, and a strong connection to Tønsberg’s city center give residents a distinctive living environment that combines urban convenience with a close relationship to the sea. Together, the buildings form a new landmark for the area, one that honors its shipyard heritage while offering a modern, high-quality framework for city life by the water.
