Thermowood and stained cladding for Veslebukta
“As architects it was important to us to incorporate nature as a central part of the project. Our aim was first and foremost to create a good place to live. The three apartment buildings, together with the terraced houses, form a shared courtyard for social gatherings, play and activities,” says Ida Hammarlund, architect at A-lab.
At Veslebukta nothing is left to chance. Materials, colours and placement were all deliberately chosen to fit as well as possible into the scenic surroundings.
“For the apartment buildings we chose a fire-safe timber cladding. The colours are drawn from shades you might find in a pine forest. As you can probably tell, our focus throughout has been to create a calm, natural atmosphere,” explains Charlotte Hansson of A-lab.
All façades face west with fine views over the water. A footpath has also been laid out where residents can enjoy the peace and the surroundings.
The façades of the apartment buildings feature large terrace areas and extensive use of glass. This contributes to a beautiful aesthetic, with Thermowood and stained cladding helping to break up and reduce the apparent scale of the buildings.

Thermowood and stained cladding in pine, spruce, ash or ayous is heat-treated (certified Thermo-D) using heat and steam. The thermal process improves the biological durability of the wood, making Thermowood very well suited to external use thanks to its excellent rot resistance.
