Thermowood for Vervet – modern architecture in Tromsø
When building new in an area with a strong industrial history, it is important to choose materials that both respect the past and create a modern expression. External Thermowood cladding was supplied in a range of colours reflecting the robust materials that once characterised the shipyard. Together with the architects, a colour and material palette was developed, inspired by rusty ship hulls, timber and the Arctic nature surrounding Tromsø. Through a process of testing and experimentation, shades were found that balance the raw and industrial while adding warmth and depth. The colours reference historical elements from the shipyard while giving the project a modern, timeless expression.
